Kristin Juszczyk talks Taylor Swift, her clothing design process and more

In the words of Taylor Swift, That was the night things changed.

On January 13, the pop superstar braved the Kansas City cold to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, in a custom down jacket made from a tight end's jersey. Kristin Juszczyk.

“She single-handedly changed my career, and I truly feel like I owe her everything,” the designer, who is married to 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk, told the story. spoke to Page Six Style about the moment.

“When I saw her wearing mine, it was a real pinch moment. And it completely changed the trajectory of everything I was doing. She opened a lot of doors for me. And she looked amazing!

Juszczyk's work gained attention when she created custom jersey down jackets for Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes to wear to the Chiefs game on January 13th. Britanilin/Instagram

In the months since, Juszczyk's Instagram followers have grown by 1 million, he's signed a licensing deal with the NFL, and he's created custom pieces for people like: Olivia Culpo, caitlin clarke, Libby Dunn and Natalia Bryant.

The lucky winners will be able to witness Juszczyk's design process firsthand. She said her design process hasn't changed much since she started putting her own clever spin on NFL costumes about five years ago.

“My husband was very fortunate to have such a long career in the NFL, but I was really tired of having the same three or four items in rotation,” she says of the game. I remember how I started creating my own day looks.

“I had a box of Kyle merchandise, so I got inspired and cut it out.” [T-shirts] Wake up and see what you can do from there. The first thing I made on game day was actually a pair of patchwork sweatpants. Looking back now, I was so proud of them, even though they are so bad. ”

A self-taught sewist, she says she “fell in love” with the process of making a garment from start to finish.

“I became kind of addicted to the feeling of how rewarding it is to spend so much time and energy working with my hands and being able to physically hold the finished product in my hands. “It became,” she says.

In the years since, Juszczyk has transformed standard-issue sports merchandise into everything from; corset to cargo pants to boot covers — and each project comes with “unique challenges.”

“When I made my first puffer jacket, I had never made sleeves before, so it was a learning experience,” she says.

“It doesn't matter how long I've been sewing, there's always something to learn and relearn. Every piece is a challenge because I always have a vision of what I want. The only question is whether it can actually be achieved.”

As for whether she's working on another special style for Swift as the NFL season continues?

“Not at the moment, but you never know!” Juszczyk says. “I always want to do something for her.”
