Trump supporters say former president’s return to Butler, Pennsylvania is ‘gutsy’

Excited spectators flooded the Butler Fair Grounds in Pennsylvania on Saturday, calling it “brave” for former President Donald Trump to appear at the scene of his near assassination.

President Trump is scheduled to appear at the scene where he was nearly killed in the July 13 mass shooting, and the Republican presidential candidate is scheduled to speak at 5 p.m.

Supporters displayed American flags and Trump slogans and told Fox News Digital that Trump's return to the site was “brave.”

“I think it's brave. The fact that he's here and not hiding really shows people strength,” said River Jaeger, 21, from Buffalo, Ohio.

“If someone else gets shot, they'll run,” he says. “Instead of running away, he calmed down and showed us that he was okay.”

Father-daughter duo Tom Bye, 44, and Brooke Bye, 19, said Trump's return proved “he's doing it for us” and that his actions ” He speaks eloquently.”

“He's not afraid. He's doing it for us. He doesn't have to be. He's the people's word and speaks for the people,” Tom said. “That speaks volumes. He's not going to run or hide.”

“He came back to show he's strong,” Brook said.

The two men said, “The country is going downhill,” and shared their hope for change under the Trump administration.

“If he doesn't become president now, this country won't be saved,” Tom said. “It's time for a change.”

Brooke echoed her father's sentiments, citing the rise in illegal immigration as a top issue for her vote.

“That needs to change,” she said. “The immigration issue needs to change.”

Friends Jodi Cavalieri and Dena Diebold said they drove three hours from Buffalo, New York, to meet Trump.

They praised President Trump's courage and said “life is much better under the Trump administration.”

“It's brave. For the country, for the people,” Cavalieri said.

“It's the same,” Diebold agreed. “God bless Trump.”

“Life is much better under the Trump administration,” Cavalieri said. “I want my children to be able to buy a house with peace of mind. My 24-year-old son still lives at home, but it's not easy for him to move out and get a mortgage. I hope it gets better.”

“We felt safer when President Trump was in office,” Diebold said. “The world used to be at peace, but now it's not.”

Jurni Dostal, a 27-year-old business owner, told Fox News Digital that this was her first Trump rally.

David Mills, wearing a Trump wig, said it was his third time attending the rally and that he “won't miss it.”

“You can't miss it. This is my third rally in Butler,” said Mills, 64.

Dennis Materia, athletic secretary for St. Mary's School District, said he was overjoyed to hear President Trump “finish his speech.”

“I want him to make America better,” she continued. “Things were much better when he was president.”

Real estate broker Dan Beasley said it was “very brave” for the former president to return.

“I think he's a very courageous person,” he said. “God has a clear purpose, and He will return to share His message.”

The Trump campaign said Butler's return was to honor those who died in an assassination attempt during a rally.

President Trump will also recognize two other Americans injured by the gunman, David Dutch and James Copenhaver.
