No college football result of the year would highlight Vanderbilt's blowout win over No. 1 Alabama on Saturday in Week 6. Vanderbilt had never previously beaten a top-five team in the poll in 60 tries, but one week after a blowout win against Georgia that promised to be the best game of the regular season. , somehow defeated this mighty Crimson Tide. A week later, Vanderbilt shocked the world by winning 40-35 despite coming into the game trailing by 23.5 points.
Vandy scored on the game's opening drive and added a pick-six from Heisman candidate Jalen Milroe on the next possession. The Commodores held on late thanks to Kamryan Johnson's late touchdown reception on a 6-yard pass from QB Diego Pavia. Vanderbilt's offense got enough first downs in the final seconds of regulation, denying Bama a chance for a game-winning drive.
