LeBron James, son Bronny share floor as Lakers to make NBA history

Sunday was a big night for LeBron James and his son Bronny.

The two shared the court for the first time in the NBA during the Lakers' preseason game against the Suns, becoming the first father-son pair in league history to play together.

Bronny, who celebrated his 20th birthday Sunday, entered the game with his father early in the second quarter and received cheers from the Palm Springs crowd when he took the floor.

Bronny committed two turnovers in four minutes and left the game after missing a 3-point shot, and LeBron also committed a turnover while on the court with him.

Lakers first-year head coach JJ Redick told reporters before the game that the moment was not a “gimmick,” but that he intended to fit the two on the floor “within the flow of the game.” Per ESPN.

The 39-year-old LeBron, who is entering his 22nd NBA season, has long talked about wanting to play professionally with his son, but the Lakers' selection of Bronny (real name LeBron James Jr.) with the 55th overall pick made that possible. became a reality. in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Bronny played one season at USC after suffering cardiac arrest in July 2023.

It remains to be seen how much time Bronny will be able to play in the NBA as a rookie, but he will likely spend time with the team's G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.

However, the Lakers are expected to give LeBron and Bronny a chance to make history in a game where they will be counted as the first father-son duo to play together in a regular season game.
