Hundreds of anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian activists gathered at Columbia University on Monday to mark the anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack, chanting “Resistance is great!” we will win! ”
Some carried banners that read “We honor all our martyrs,” a reference to terrorists who carry out suicide bombings against Israeli civilians or whose members die in combat. The terminology used for this purpose has been incorporated.
It was not clear how many participants were students and how many were from off-campus.
As Breitbart News reported, students at Columbia University and other New York City universities planned a walkout on Monday as part of a broader demonstration. Columbia daily audiencestudent newspaper, reported The university said it was concerned that the strike violated university rules and could lead to violence.
Before the strike, pro-Palestinian demonstrators held a daily vigil, reading out the names of more than 50,000 Palestinians killed in the war in Gaza since October 7, 2023. Demonstrators held banners that read, “We salute all the martyrs” and “Liberate Gaza.” “Speech'' and “Break the chains and let us down.'' Interim University President Katrina Armstrong Announced additional security measures In an email Sunday, it wrote that the strike was not notified through the process outlined in the University's Code of Conduct guidelines. Armstrong expressed concern that groups not affiliated with the university were coming to Columbia's campus “for activities that raise concerns about the possibility of violence.”
Within Our Lifetime, a Palestinian-led community organization in New York City, has previously organized demonstrations on campus by pro-Palestinian student groups, but the Oct. 2 rally featured students skipping school to work. He called on individuals to do so. Post to X “We stand with Gaza and uplift the Palestinian people who have resisted genocide by any means necessary since 1948.”
The year 1948 marks the moment when Israel declared its independence following the United Nations decision to divide the British Mandate into a Jewish state and an Arab state. Palestinian Arabs rejected this decision and several Arab countries invaded Israel. Israel won the war and has continued to prosper ever since.
Colombia experienced the most anti-Semitic and violent anti-Israel protests in a year since October 7. Several university administrators, including the former president, resigned over mishandling of the protests.
