As Americans Suffer, Biden’s FEMA Focuses on LGBTQ and DEI

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has come under heavy criticism for massive failures in its response to Hurricane Helen. He seemed to spend a lot of time worrying about gender, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policy. Biden era.

Amid a wave of criticism of FEMA, videos of some of the agency's training sessions and policy discussions have begun circulating on social media.

In one such video, Riley Hurst, director of education and training for FEMA's Pride Federal Employee Resource Group, praises the agency's efforts to have “conversations with immigrant trans women.” I can see you there.

Hurst noted that FEMA is working to ensure that “immigrant trans women” have “trust” in the shelters FEMA provides for immigrants. Hurst added that FEMA must continue to ensure that shelters are not “gender-mistreating” immigrant trans women and that they have access to the bathrooms and bedrooms they wish to use.

Another video from the disaster preparedness meeting shows FEMA administrators talking about how to focus on “LGBTQIA people” and that the agency needs to ensure “disaster equity” in its efforts. You can see them talking.

Another FEMA video highlights that FEMA has signed a pledge with the NAACP to “instill equity in disaster relief” in 2023.

of pledge NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson and Board Chairman Leon W. He joined FEMA Administrator DeAnne Criswell to “address long-standing disparities.”

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was created to serve as “a global example of a shared vision for inclusive and effective disaster management that prioritizes the empowerment of black communities.”

In fact, FEMA became the first to address DEI and climate change issues almost as soon as Biden became president. In December 2021, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell proudly said: policy memo It focuses not only on “equity” but also on “climate change.”

Criswell asserted that FEMA will focus on “improving program and policy equity” in disaster response and “leading for resilience in a changing climate.”

Criswell said in the memo that FEMA will “instill equity as the foundation of emergency management” and “lead our entire community in climate resiliency.”
