Trump’s Support Shows ‘There’s a Kind of Madness’ in America

Princeton University professor Eddie Glaude Jr. said Monday on MSNBC's “Deadline” that the fact that voters are supporting former President Donald Trump shows “there's some kind of insanity that's gripping us.” He said he was there.

Host Nicole Wallace asked: “What does the game look like over the last 29 days, when we have all the information?'' As Peter Baker's analysis shows, Mr. Trump has the ability to reinvent himself. What do you think about that?

Glaude said, “Oh God, Nicole, you ask that question, right? I mean, it just shows us the nature of this country. As people who work for a living, we've said over and over again that this is a 50-50 country. Secondly, we know that it's divided. We know it's complicated in relationships, right? But we also know that there's a cultural shift going on in America and people aren't happy about it. We don't know what we're changing into. And people aren't happy about it. We know there are politicians who aren't very decent people. They are taking advantage of it and using it for their own ends and purposes. So we have to add that feeling of insecurity and that we are not okay. No.”

Furthermore, he added: “There's a kind of madness that's gripping us, you could call it a fever dream, and we're trying to get to the other side of it, and we're there. These numbers is a reflection of Americans who are just holding on to something, trying to hang on in the face of the wind, and Americans trying desperately to make sure we survive it. I think. And who knows where we'll land?
