I’m ‘Expressing Emotion, Telling a Story, Getting a Date Wrong’

In an interview on CBS' “60 Minutes'' that aired on Monday, 2024 Democratic vice presidential candidate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) addressed concerns about where he was during the Tiananmen Square protests. Regarding false statements about his career, including accurate claims, he said: People “know the difference between someone who expresses emotion, someone who tells stories, and someone who gets dates wrong, rather than a pathological liar like Donald Trump.”

“60 Minutes'' correspondent Bill Whitaker said, “In a debate with Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), you said, “Sometimes my fingers get crooked.'' ” he asked. And I think you were referring to when you said you were in Hong Kong when you weren't there during the Tiananmen incident. Is that that kind of misrepresentation, isn't it more than just being a knucklehead? ”

“I think people know who I am, and I'm not a pathological liar like Donald Trump, but someone who expresses emotions, tells stories, and gets dates wrong,” Walz said. I think you know the difference between the two.”

Whittaker said it comes down to whether he can be trusted.

Mr. Waltz replied, “I admit that I am weak-fingered sometimes, but those closest to me know that I am a man of my word.''
