Florida ‘suitcase killer’ trial delayed as suspect’s courtroom requests emerge

A Florida woman accused of suffocating her boyfriend in a suitcase is preparing to go to trial next week after Hurricane Milton delayed the case.

Sarah Boone's request for professional hair styling and makeup during her murder trial was denied by a judge last week, citing safety concerns with these products. Court TV reported.

Boone, 46, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the suffocation death of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres, 42, in their Winter Park apartment in 2020.

Torres was found dead in a suitcase in her apartment on the morning of February 24, 2020.

The Florida Attorney's Office released a video allegedly recorded on Boone's cell phone., Torres' final moments are shown screaming “I can't breathe” after he was allegedly trapped inside a suitcase during a drunken game of hide-and-seek.

Boone allegedly told law enforcement that he drank wine and played hide-and-seek with Torres when he passed out in bed.

Authorities said cell phone video showed Torres trying to get out of the suitcase.

“For everything you've done for me, [expletive] you! You idiot,” Boone allegedly yelled in the video, Fox 35 Orlando previously reported. Oh, that's how I feel when you cheat on me. ”

Boone had asked that his initial interview with police not be used during the trial, but the judge denied that request. The Orlando Sentinel reported.

The judge initially intended to allow her team to wear makeup while in the courtroom for the trial, but the Orange County Sheriff's Office told the judge that makeup is contraband in jail. Court TV reported that the company was informed that there were safety concerns. Her request was denied.

The murder trial was scheduled to begin this week, but was postponed to Oct. 14 due to Hurricane Milton.
