Actress Jenna Fischer celebrated a major health milestone on Tuesday, announcing that she is “cancer-free” nearly a year after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, “The Office” star shared her journey from diagnosis to recovery in a series of Instagram posts.

“I never thought I would be making an announcement like this, but here it is,” she wrote on social media. “Last December, I was diagnosed with stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer. After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, I am now cancer-free.”

Fischer shared a series of slides detailing her experience, which began in October 2023 on Instagram, when she wrote, “While preparing for a routine mammogram, I was thinking, à la Michael Scott, “The minutes are ticking.'' “Let's take care of our time bags'' with a joking reminder.''

She wrote that the mammogram results were inconclusive and her doctor ordered a breast ultrasound, which detected something in her left breast. A biopsy was then ordered, and Fisher received her diagnosis on December 1, 2023.

“Triple-positive breast cancer is an aggressive type of breast cancer, but it is also highly responsive to treatment,” Professor Fisher wrote. “In January, I underwent a lumpectomy to remove the tumor. Fortunately, my cancer was caught early and did not spread to my lymph nodes or other parts of my body. However, due to the aggressive nature of the triple-positive cancer, chemotherapy was still required” and radiation was administered to ensure it would not come back. ”

Fisher admitted that she lost her hair during chemotherapy, but said, “Thanks to my wonderful wigs and hats with hair (affectionately called Wiggats by my family), I've managed to keep things from happening to me until now.” I could wait for everything to be revealed.” she wrote.

“It takes a village to fight cancer, and I had an amazing village,” she said. “I don't think I really knew the generosity and kindness that showered from person to person until this happened. It started with the team of doctors and nurses. They were all angels.”

She thanked her friends, family, children and husband Lee for helping her through her treatment. “I recently underwent re-examination and am happy to say that the treatment was successful. I am cancer-free and will continue to receive treatment and monitoring to ensure I remain that way.”
