CNN pollster Harry Enten warned viewers that if the polls were as wrong as the 2020 presidential election, former President Donald Trump would win in a “catastrophe.”
“Let’s say there was a missed vote like in 2020.”
The two candidates are evenly matched in many opinion polls, but Enten is said Trump has historically performed poorly in the polls, but far better at the ballot box, so an even race is a very good thing for Trump.
“If the polls are correct, Kamala Harris is leading in the Great Lakes battleground states despite losing North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona, leading to a drop in electoral votes from Donald Trump. 276 people versus 262. But let's say there was a missed vote like in 2020,'' Enten explained on Tuesday.
“So what happens?” he continued, “so Donald Trump adds Nevada to all of the Great Lakes battleground states and holds onto Arizona, North Carolina, and other states where he was leading.” , and Georgia with 312 electoral votes.
However, Enten said the polls could show the opposite result, as in 2022. And in that case, Ms. Harris would be running away from the election.
“In this particular case, the winner was reversed again, this time, and Kamala Harris won by a landslide with 319 electoral votes,” he said.
“So the bottom line here is, yes, there is a state polling average,” he added. “But what they're really telling us is that this election is too close to call. We probably won't know who wins in another month, or another month. I guess.”
Enten also made a similar point about public opinion polls in his August corner.
