During my first month in college, I was banned from participating in a debate tournament because I was white.
The club's president was an Indian boy who had interned at Goldman Sachs during the summer. He solemnly told the entire room that white kids were winning too much and it was unfair to minorities.
If Democrats are pandering to young blacks, Republicans must be pandering to young, talented white men — themselves minorities, whose potential is increasingly being squandered.
At the time I had two thoughts:
1. That's how you treat white people, Devesh. (His name was actually Devesh.) You live in America. The only reason your family left India is because white people made America infinitely better. Let's honor them.
2. Is there any group more hated than young, talented white men?
no room for debate
College debates now require trigger warnings before each round. If you do not provide it, you will automatically lose. The tournament currently revolves around themes such as “The Queerness of Wuthering Heights” and “How to Eliminate Whiteness.”
Leftist ideology has undermined an activity that once served as an opportunity for intelligent white children to prove their excellence, gain recognition, and enter the elite.
How can young, talented white men excel these days? The system has completely abandoned them. Even if they manage to get into an elite university, they quickly realize how unwelcome they are.
Return to risk
When I was in my first year, I attended a law school information session. All I heard for 45 minutes was about “Women in the Law” and “Black Student Association.” How everything is feminized and anti-white, from something as subtle as a cute and intentionally unintimidating PowerPoint design to overt and unabashed discrimination against white men. I noticed.
Young white men subconsciously realize that originality and risk-taking are strictly frowned upon. If you always follow the instructions, you can climb the ladder, but this is never the case. wonderful. They are just another cog in the machine, forever replaceable and will be the subject of ridicule.
This perception is doing serious damage to the white male psyche, and I think this is one of the greatest crises of our time. All of this presents a unique opportunity for Republicans. There is currently a serious shortage of young Republican leaders.
old people party
I watched the Republican National Convention. How many of the featured speakers were under 40? Compare that to the Democratic National Convention. Say what you want about the Democratic Party, but they hold the future in their hands. What will the Republican Party do once the boomers are gone? Do they even know?
If Democrats are pandering to young blacks, Republicans must be pandering to young, talented white men — themselves minorities, whose potential is increasingly being squandered. Many of these men don't care about politics because they feel it's fake and doesn't help them. They see the Democratic Party as the party of non-white people and the Republican Party as the party of corporations and zone out.
But if the Republican Party can tap into their aspirations for greatness by offering them opportunities to achieve, an entirely new political party could be born. There are many ways to achieve this, but they do not need to be, and should not be, explicitly political.
Reforming university debate
For example, why not reform university debate? Currently, college debate at elite universities is dominated by an organization called APDA (American Congressional Debate Association). This is an organization that bans white students and requires them to issue warnings. It is also the organization that hosts all tournaments.
The Republican Party, or more realistically, nonprofits loosely tied to the Republican Party, could create competing organizations that don't discriminate against white people or require trigger warnings. To ensure diversity of beliefs, we will keep debate topics bipartisan.
Here you go. Now we have an organization that establishes the right to be an ally to high-achieving young people and provides a way for Republicans to identify up-and-coming talent.
Create a better LinkedIn
Here's another idea. Why not create a competitor to LinkedIn, one that has none of the corporate charlatanism and instead focuses on risk-taking and authenticity? Let all your tech buddies who support Trump work on this.
Importantly, this platform should not be overtly conservative or aimed solely at political work. This should be advertised as an elite service, and like these highly exclusive dating apps, there is a wide range of ways to find the brightest, most daring students and match them with companies in any industry looking for them. A detailed application process is required.
It will also serve as a valuable means for these students to network with each other without worrying about being “canceled.”
Hiring promising young talent
Another idea: What about starting an organization that would identify talented high school students in Central America, guide them to the best universities possible, and pay all of their college tuition?
Republicans regularly lament how out of touch our nation's elites are. Therefore, the solution is to form a new elite. All you have to do is ask students to write pro-American essays and interview them to see if they have right-wing sensibilities. With the Republican budget, we could help hundreds of bright kids every year.
Yes, these universities are hostile to white men. But they also offer unparalleled resources and connections. I myself have benefited from this! You get the point. There is untapped genius out there that the right could profit from if it paid enough attention. Young, talented white men want to pursue greatness. They just need the opportunity to do so. If you help them, they will help you.
