Males just 12 and 13 years old accused of beating former NY Democratic governor on Manhattan street — and it gets even wilder

A 12-year-old male and a 13-year-old male were arrested by police on Saturday in connection with the physical assault of former New York Democratic Gov. David Paterson and his son-in-law. told the Associated Press.

Patterson, 70, and her son-in-law Anthony Sliwa, 20, were attacked as they were walking on Manhattan's Upper East Side around 8:30 p.m. Friday, leaving them with minor facial injuries, according to the Associated Press. He added that he sustained injuries and was treated at a hospital.

Mr Patterson said his son-in-law encountered some of the attackers while walking his dog beforehand.

The newspaper said Patterson is legally blind and has physical injuries, adding that Sliwa is the son of Curtis Sliwa, founder of the anti-crime group Guardian Angels.

Both boys were charged with gang assault, the Associated Press reported, adding that authorities believed at least five people were involved in the attack.

Paterson served as governor from 2008 to 2010 after Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution scandal, the newspaper said, adding that Paterson was New York's first black governor.

According to the Associated Press, Patterson said her stepson had encountered some of the attackers earlier while walking his dog and told him she would call police if they did not stop climbing the fire escape of the Second Avenue building. he said.

It was after the aforementioned exchange that Patterson said she went for a walk with her son-in-law, encountered the same group, got into an argument and the group attacked Patterson and Sliwa, the paper said. Reported.

According to the Associated Press, Patterson said her stepson fought off multiple attackers but suffered a wound to his face that required several stitches.

Two more people arrested

In addition to the two juveniles arrested, two adults were also arrested on Monday in connection with the attacks on Patterson and Sliwa.

New York City Housing Authority employees Traver Nurse, 40, and Diamond Minter, 34, were arrested on Second Avenue near East 96th Street, police and officials said. told the New York Post.

Both suspects are charged with second-degree gang assault, and Nurse is also charged with punching Patterson and faces an additional charge of assault causing injury to a victim over 65, the newspaper reported. He added that there is a possibility. Police told the newspaper that both charges are felonies.

The 14-year-old male was not charged because police determined he was not the assailant, the paper said.

The newspaper added, citing sources, that Nurse had previously been arrested in Brooklyn in late July on charges of aggravated unlicensed operation, among other traffic violations. The Post also reported, citing sources, that Nurse was arrested in August 2009 for gun possession.

The newspaper said it was unclear at this time whether Minter, the other adult arrested, had any prior arrests.

Their employer, the New York City Housing Authority, said both men were still employed, the newspaper reported.

“They have not reported for work,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “This is an active investigation by the NYPD. No additional information is available at this time.”
