Actress Jenna Fischer is best known for playing Pam Beesly on the NBC hit comedy. officerecently revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year but is currently cancer-free.
“October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” Fisher began in an Instagram post on Tuesday. “I never thought I would be making this announcement, but here I am. Last December, I was diagnosed with stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer.”
“After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, I am now cancer-free,” Fisher continued. “To accompany the news, I wanted to post a photo of myself looking happy and healthy in a spotted pixie.”
Her post included a lengthy statement detailing her breast cancer diagnosis.
Back in October 2023, I posted a photo of myself preparing for a routine mammogram on Instagram, jokingly telling myself, in true Michael Scott fashion, to “watch out for the ticking time bag.” It reminded me. A mammogram was inconclusive due to the dense breast tissue, so the doctor ordered a breast ultrasound. They found something in my left breast. A biopsy was ordered. Then, on December 1, 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 1 triple positive breast cancer.
Triple-positive breast cancer is an aggressive type of breast cancer, but it is also highly responsive to treatment. I had tumor removal surgery in January to remove the tumor. Fortunately, my cancer was caught early and has not spread to my lymph nodes or other parts of my body, but due to the aggressive nature of triple-positive breast cancer, I have to make sure it doesn't come back. still required chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In February, I started 12 weekly rounds of chemotherapy, and in June I started three weeks of radiation. And I'm continuing treatment with Herceptin IV and daily Tamoxifen, and I'm happy to say I'm feeling great.
“I lost my hair during chemotherapy, but thanks to my wonderful wig and hat with hair (which my family affectionately called Wiggat), I have been able to cope with everything that is happening to me. We could wait for the reveal,” Fisher added.
The actress went on to say that she decided to make this announcement “for several reasons.”
“One, I'm ready to ditch the wig,” she said. “Second, to beg you to get a mammogram once a year. You can also ask your doctor to calculate your Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score and get any additional tests you need. Seriously, Doctor Now Please contact.
“If we had waited another six months, things could have been much worse,” Fisher said. “It could have spread. I saw women posting pictures of their mammograms on Instagram, and I had to set up my own mammogram pictures. It was late, but it was really nice.”
“Think of this as your last shot at getting it done.” giant mechanical man the actress said.
Fisher warned that a cancer diagnosis “instantly changes your life.”
“It's all about doctor visits, test results, treatment, and recovery from treatment,” she says. “Suddenly, your entire life becomes focused on one thing: fighting cancer.”
The actress thanked the team of doctors and nurses, friends, family and fellow cancer survivors who helped her during this difficult time.
“After my last chemotherapy and radiation treatment, [my husband] Lee asked me if there was anything I wanted to do to celebrate. I said I just wanted to be in the backyard with my kids, all throwing confetti and ringing the bell. So we did it,” Fisher said while sharing a photo of the moment in an Instagram post.
“I recently underwent re-examination and I am happy to say that the treatment was successful. I am cancer-free,” she added. “I will continue to receive treatment and monitoring to help me stay that way.”
“Again, please don't miss your mammogram,” Fisher implored. “And if you are diagnosed with breast cancer, please know that there is a village waiting to care for you.”
