Babysitter Arrested After 1-Year-Old Mauled to Death by Her Pit Bulls

The teen suffered multiple bite wounds, the report said.

“Honestly, this 13-year-old definitely, I consider her a hero,” Salazar said.

Baby Jirija was bitten on the neck and face. Paramedics rushed the child to a nearby hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Salazar said in an update Tuesday that the baby ultimately died from his injuries at 9:30 p.m. Monday at San Antonio University Hospital.

Rodriguez was subsequently arrested and charged with serious bodily injury to a child by omission, a first-degree felony. She was booked into the Bexar County Jail. Rodriguez could face additional charges for the injuries to her daughter, officials said.

Authorities confiscated three pit bills, but Rodriguez allegedly asked authorities not to take the dog with him.

“If she's more worried about the dogs that were found to be involved in the attacks, does that mean she's more worried about keeping them away from us? That's concerning. . It will definitely be taken into account when deciding what to do with this woman going forward,” Salazar said.

According to reports, Rodriguez had previously been investigated by police for allegedly locking people in his car and then letting his dog out. After that incident, authorities allowed her to keep a dog.
