Texas: 2 Teachers Placed On Administrative Leave After Being Accused Of Giving Pre-School Kids ‘Sleeping Aids’

Two Spring, Texas, teachers are accused of distributing stickers of what appeared to be sleep aids to preschoolers.

An investigation is currently underway after two teachers at Northgate Crossing Elementary School were removed from class and placed on administrative leave. Police are investigating whether the two men allegedly distributed “sleepy stickers” to students.

September 24ththa woman named Lisa Rubiano said her daughter Lane came home from school and showed her the sticker.

“She said, 'That's a sleep sticker.'” “Where did you get this?” she asked. And she said, 'My teacher gave it to me for sleep time,'” Rubiano said.

Lisa thought the sticker was suspicious, so she looked it up online and discovered it was a sleep patch sold on Amazon. This patch is for adults only and contains melatonin in addition to other ingredients.

“I showed it to my 4-year-old and he said, 'Yes, this is a sleepy sticker,'” said Melissa Guilford, another parent of a student at the school.

Lisa reported her discovery to the school, but other parents were kept informed of the situation even after her daughter told school administrators that other students had also received stickers. claims that there was not.

At that point, Lisa decided to take matters into her own hands and began reaching out to other parents, encouraging them to discuss sleep stickers with their children.

Najara Abdullah, another mother of a student at the school, also claimed that she has noticed a significant change in her son's behavior since the new school year started. She reported that he was not eating and was crying much more than normal. Mr Abdullah said he took lunch home but had not eaten anything, sparking concern.

“They are giving him sleeping pills to keep him quiet,” Abdullah said.

On Tuesday, a group of parents finally met with Spring IDS administrators, who told them to refrain from discussing the allegations because “the investigation is still ongoing.”

Spring ISD released the following statement on Wednesday:

“Spring ISD is aware that two staff members at Northgate Crossing Elementary School allegedly administered sleep supplements to students on September 24th. These staff members were immediately removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave. He is under ongoing investigation by the Spring ISD Police Department.'' The district takes all allegations of educator misconduct seriously and will take all necessary steps to ensure that our students receive their education in a safe and nurturing environment. ”

Late Wednesday morning, the district also sent out an updated statement:

“Administrator at Northgate Elementary School was contacted by a parent who said their child had been given a sleep aid patch by a teacher in the classroom. Upon learning of this allegation, the teachers in that classroom were immediately dismissed and placed on administrative leave. As a precautionary measure, the two paraprofessionals in the classroom have also been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation by the Spring ISD Police Department as this incident violates FFAC Board Policy (Local). “The safety of our students is our top priority and we take any allegations of misconduct seriously. We ask for the community's patience as the SISD Police Department conducts its investigation.”
