The Los Angeles Dodgers aren't dead yet.
Just 27 outs from elimination, the Dodgers showed why they are the National League's No. 1 seed with an 8-0 victory over the San Diego Padres in Game 4 of the NLDS on Wednesday.
The Dodgers wasted no time, as Mookie Betts, whose postseason struggles are officially in the news, hit a solo home run in the first inning. Then, in the second inning with the bases loaded, Shohei Ohtani and Betts each hit consecutive RBI hits.

In the third inning, Will Smith hit a two-run homer to give the Dodgers a 5-0 lead. In the seventh inning, Tommy Edman added a sac fly and Gavin Lux hit a two-run homer on target for insurance.
It might be a Monday morning quarterback case for the Padres, as Dylan Schies lasted only 1.2 innings on three days of rest, but Joe Musgrove's Tommy John surgery certainly doesn't help matters. However, Brian Howing was the starting relief pitcher, but he wasn't all that great, giving up two earned runs in the third inning.

Francisco Lindor's grand slam lifts Mets to NLCS, magical run continues
This was a bullpen game for the Dodgers, who have had many injuries to their starting rotation all year. But Dave Roberts' relievers gave him more than he expected. The eight relief pitchers combined for the night allowed just seven hits and two walks, four of which came in the final three innings when the game was essentially out of reach.
The Dodgers took advantage of clutch situations, going 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The Padres, on the other hand, were 0-for-9.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who became the highest-paid pitcher in MLB history despite never pitching in MLB until 2025, is expected to start for the Dodgers in Game 5 – San Diego's starting pitcher is also undecided, but Darvish Yu got the ball which would have given him normal rest.
