Harris holds advantage on likeability, Trump has leadership edge: Gallup polling

Vice President Harris is considered more likable by voters than her Republican opponent, but a new poll finds former President Trump has better leadership qualities than Harris.

Nearly 60% of respondents said the Republican presidential candidate is a strong and decisive leader, while 48% of voters said the same about Harris. About 61% of respondents said the former president “can get things done,” compared to 49% who said the Democratic candidate “can get things done,” according to the data.

The study also found that Trump has improved on almost every issue he had with voters over his three presidential campaigns: 2016, 2020 and now 2024.

Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump are nearly evenly matched among voters on several issues. Both men each received 51% approval among voters when asked whether they can run the government effectively. When asked who can make the best decisions in a crisis, Trump scored 52 points, one point higher than Harris' 51 points.

Voters on both sides of the aisle had favorable views of their party's candidate, but Democrats seemed more confident in their answer to Harris than Republicans were to Trump.

According to Gallup, 89 to 95 percent of Democrats say each trait applies to the vice president. Although Trump's approval ratings among Republicans remain high, he ranks low on honesty, moral values ​​and likability.

According to The Hill/Decision Desk headquarters, Ms. Harris has a 3 percentage point lead over Mr. Trump, based on polling tallies.

The Gallup poll was conducted among 1,023 adults from September 16-28 after the presidential debate. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
