Woman breaks both ankles in NYC haunted house: lawsuit

Moncello Tanis had surgery to repair a shattered ankle and had to learn how to walk again.

“It was very difficult for me psychologically, emotionally and physically,” she said. “I still have difficulty climbing stairs and my daily life is no different.”

The terrifying attraction was finally shut down by the city this week over safety concerns after authorities discovered the building had been “fundamentally altered.”

“The interior layout has been completely changed, and in the event of an emergency, it would be very difficult for anyone in there to get out,” Tom Curao, NYPD's assistant director of fire prevention, told the Post. spoke.

The city issued a full eviction order to the residence on Oct. 5, according to Department of Buildings records.

Curao cited structural and electrical issues, including the two-story, two-family, 1,982-square-foot home, where some of the wood beams were cut to install a spiral staircase that is part of the attraction. “There's a hole in the wall,” he said. ”
