Great Britain v New Zealand: America’s Cup 2024 races three and four – live | America’s Cup

Plain-sailing for New Zealand. “A real nice breeze” is heard from their crew. It’s been theirs from the start. The lead is 600m, almost unassailable. The Brits have been beaten by a more aggressive, more disciplined team. They’re going much slower, too. They almost idle to the finish line. Job done. That’s 3-0.

New Zealand set off at a faster rate of knots, GB drop those 75m behind to clear the penalty, and that’s a good recovery as they give chase. The gap is down to 54m. “Stand by,” says Dylan Fletcher as they seek a chance to pass. The New Zealand team tack left, and that slows the British. They drop to 100m down, then 130m down. This is only the first leg after which New Zealand lead.

So, both teams are primed and ready, launched into the bay, ready to start tacking. They nearly crash into each other ahead of the start. The Brits gets a 75m penalty from the start. Whoops.

Saturday didn’t go well for Sir Ben Ainslie and his crew. While they were winning the Louis Vuitton Cup, the New Zealand team were clearly working on their craft. So, 2-0 to the Kiwis and Team Ineos Britannia really need to salvage something from Sunday to keep their heads above water.

main events

Okay, in wind conditions we're off again in 8 minutes.

The race will start at 3:23 p.m. 10 minutes left. The downwind limit has been exceeded. Therefore, wait for it to recover.

Please give me a few more minutes. They are waiting for the wind. I fell. We solve problems needed for racing. Meanwhile, the boat/foil is pulsating.

The next race is in about 5 minutes. The sea conditions remained the same, and the winds were becoming weaker. The boats are circling each other.

Jeremy Boyce will be in touch: “As I was talking to Dom yesterday, I'm enjoying the race, but there are some concerns. It's sailing Jim/John, but not what we know of. This is foiling, and it's a completely different race. It's a concept. If the actual hull of the actual boat was actually in contact with the water, what they're doing would probably be very detrimental to racing, given the investment required. Impressive, but even Ainsley said it, today it's a button-pushing, timed sport, with people hoisting ropes on deck, dodging booms, let alone balancing boats on the spot. All of this is controlled by on-board technology as well as Blighty's in-race technical support. I think the crew is working very hard and everyone is very healthy. I can see it, but I've only seen him wearing a helmet in the cockpit. I'm an old Skele guy (recorded music, real books, craft beer, rugged lace-ups and good brogues… ), and if the boat was real, I'd sign up for more live TV, with real sails, real people hoisting it with real ropes, teamwork and timing, and real booms. Mark my words, everything comes back. As the Americans say, “What happens, comes around.”

Against modern sailing. #ams

Team Ineos has about 30 minutes to turn the situation around. I guess we'll have to wait for the accusations made just before that accident.

The 75 meter race penalty was very costly. “Good luck everyone, we have a long way to go,” says Ben Ainslie. New Zealand only need four more wins.

Peter Burling, Kiwi captain. “It was jarring to see the boats coming so close… It was really nice to be able to make it meaningful.”

Ben Ainslie said again: “It's a tough decision. We felt like we were staying clear but the referee didn't see it that way. We'll look at the terms and consider it.”

And he slammed Kiwi commentators who suggested the New Zealand boat might be better than Ineos. The commentators are silent.

New Zealand wins the third leg and leads 3-0

Flat sailing boat to New Zealand. The crew members can be heard saying, “The wind is blowing really nice.'' It was theirs from the beginning. The lead is 600 meters long and almost impossible to conquer. The Brits lost to a more attacking and disciplined team. It's also much slower. They almost fly by the goal line. The work is done. That's 3-0.

Update date and time

Ineos Britannia is made by rotating On the way to the last two legs. A big margin to make up for. GB coach Rob Wilson on that penalty. “We're just hanging in there. They're sailing well.” An early near-foil collision could have ruined the whole day. New Zealand boats seem able to speed away from tackles. It seems like a feat of engineering beyond Big Sur Jim's men. The final leg will be shortened to 1.2 nautical miles as the Kiwi team heads home at the end of the fifth leg.

Smiles from everyone at Kiwi Camp. What can Britannia produce? Conversation cut between co-commanders. The lead is about 450 meters. Huge. They managed this well. Perhaps just a drop of wind could stop them. They approach the lower gate to ensure passage with a clear lead after the fourth leg.

On to the third legIneos Britannia is faster. The problem is the dirty air coming out from the other party. Ben Ainslie is quiet. Too quiet? That start held Britannia back. He was behind the wheel when it happened. New Zealand stayed well out of harm's way and were in full control and in the lead after the third leg.

The crowd in Barcelona is amazingthere are plenty of Union Jacks, but Kiwi boats are widening their lead. The race committee shortened the course as conditions eased. The New Zealand team is pedaling for dear life. They have a bigger jibe and that helps them. After the second leg they had a clear lead and a very large lead. They have already lost.

Let's go!

New Zealand departed at a faster knot speedGB drops them 75 meters back to clear the penalty, but it's a good recovery in the chase. The difference narrowed to 54m. “Wait,” says Dylan Fletcher, looking for a chance to pass. The New Zealand team's tack to the left slowed down the British team. It goes down 100 meters, then 130 meters down. This was only the first leg in which New Zealand took the lead.

Great Britain starts with a 75 meter penalty

Therefore, both teams are ready and ready to enter the bay and launch an attack. They almost collided before the start. The Brits receive a 75 meter penalty from the start. Oops.

The race is over in a few minutes, so get ready. What can Britannia do?

Here are more details from Stephen: “A friend of mine who is a tourist boat captain says the situation is very different from yesterday and the sea is more choppy.”

The story from the British team is about battery issues ahead of the race. The sea is said to be flat and it is hoped that the first race will be held. The second person can become a victim of a decline in conditions. “Light air combat”.

Steven Bergen is our man on the scene in Barcelona: “While we wait, not everyone is happy that the America's Cup will be held here.'' Two hours before the start of the race, a number of protesters organized by the “No to America's Cup'' campaign Thousands of people (10,000 according to organizers) participated. The campaign has also filed a lawsuit with the Fraud Office, alleging that organizers are making false and grossly exaggerated claims about the economic benefit to the city hosting the event. ”
