Rep. James Clyburn (D-South Carolina) said Sunday on CNN's “State of the Union” that he was concerned that black men would vote for former President Donald Trump.
Host Dana Bash said, “I just heard Donald Trump make a clear appeal to black men. My friend, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, who campaigned with me in Michigan, said, 'I just heard from a black man. “The message that we have is that the Democratic Party is taking us for granted,” he said. , Donald Trump speaks directly to us. Are you worried about black men voting for Donald Trump or staying home?”
Clyburn said, “Yes, I am concerned about black men staying home and voting for Trump. But my concerns do not prevent me from working vigorously on this campaign.” Not a thing, because I was campaigning in Michigan this past weekend, and with Debbie, I thought we were able to shake up Michigan, which was very effective. I met with Black religious leaders, I met with Black labor union leaders, and I think, frankly, we had a very frank and candid discussion. I see and feel that yes, black men, like everyone else, want to know exactly what they can expect from the Harris administration, and I'm very much against them. I have also contrasted that with what they can expect from the Trump administration. We expect Project 2025 to become a serious policy in his administration. And what would that policy be called on the first night of the Democratic National Convention? That's how I've described it ever since. It would be Jim Crow 2.0.
