Angry cyclist who screamed at driver fined after calling cops

An angry cyclist in the Salt Lake City area was filmed lashing out at a motorist, blaming him for following too closely as he called police, and was later fined himself.

The driver of the car, Pierce Kempton, 22, filmed the hostile exchange with the driver, Gary Peacock, 73, on his mobile phone.

Part of the interaction between the two was filmed late last month near a skate park in Park City, Utah, and was also captured on Kempton's dashboard camera.

Peacock is heard asking Kempton if he saw him on the street. The bicyclist was seen opening Kempton's driver's side door and demanding that he exit the vehicle.

Peacock repeatedly tells Kempton, “You're not leaving!” when he called the police.

Kempton was about to leave to go skating, but Peacock stood in front of the driver's seat and blocked Kempton from leaving.

Kempton says calmly, “My brother is messing with me.''

He asks Peacock why he is being so “grumpy” and says he “doesn't want to be aggressive” towards him.

Peacock called the dispatcher and told him there was a “very aggressive teenager” who almost hit Peacock while Kempton was on standby.

Peacock says he plans to testify in court and demands that the police be sent to give Kempton a ticket.

At one point, Peacock angrily told Kempton, “I ride a bike. I have more rights than you.”

Police eventually arrive on the scene and separate the two.

Local media outlet KPCW reported that Peacock was fined $160 for disorderly conduct offences. Kempton was reportedly fined $130 for passing too close, but he plans to fight it in court in November.

Ms Peacock admitted to losing her temper and expressed regret for her actions. He told KCPCW that he exploded at Kempton because he had a number of other incidents with the driver.

“Unfortunately, this guy was the target of my anger because there were all these other incidents,” Peacock said.
