Trump ally Tim Scott mulls bid for top role at Senate campaign arm

Sen. Tim Scott (RS.C.) is considering a run for the head position of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) in the next election cycle.

A spokesperson for Scott confirmed to Fox News Digital in a statement that the senator is considering running for the position.

“The senator appreciates the encouragement he has received from his colleagues to run for NRSC chair,” Scott spokesman Nathan Brand said in a statement. “He is working tirelessly to send Donald Trump back to the White House and win seats in the Senate, and looks forward to increasing the Republican majority in 2026.”

Sens. Thom Tillis (R-Texas) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) are up for re-election in 2026.

Recent polling in North Carolina and the swing of the election toward Democrats could make it more expensive for Republicans to defend Tillis' seat.

As for Cornyn, he could face a major challenge from other Republicans who have criticized him. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton hinted at a possible showdown with the senator in a social media post earlier this year.

Mr. Collins particularly survived, winning a shock victory in his last re-election race despite running alongside Mr. Trump. Her seat is likely to be seen as the biggest opportunity for Democrats.

There is also a potential opportunity for Republicans to challenge Democrats in 2026, with Sen. Jon Ossoff, Democrat of Georgia, and Sen. Gary Peters, Democrat of Michigan.

Scott is currently traveling to battleground states ahead of November's elections, campaigning to ensure Republicans regain control of the Senate in 2025. He has visited both Nevada and Wisconsin, and will soon head to Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

It's worth noting that Scott is poised to become chairman of the Banking Committee if Republicans regain the Senate majority.

His team noted that Scott has made both large and small donations and is one of the best party fundraisers today.
