Trump Family Discusses Future in Politics
After enduring various assassination attempts and lengthy legal battles, the Trump family feels prepared for whatever challenges lie ahead in the political sphere.
In a conversation on Air Force One during a visit to China for a summit with President Xi Jinping, Eric Trump and Lara Trump shared their perspectives. They didn’t dismiss the idea of a future political run, with Eric noting, “I’m not ruling out any possibility.” He reflected on their experiences, saying, “We’ve seen the best and we’ve seen the worst.”
He described the harsh realities of being involved in politics, stating, “If you’re going to be in this game, you better be ready for it. They’re coming, and in ways you can’t even imagine.”
Lara Trump, who recently served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee before transitioning to Fox News, echoed her husband’s sentiments. She mentioned how the pressure from the “deep state” has made their family stronger. “If you keep rubbing your hands, you get calluses,” she said, suggesting that their experiences have toughened them against adversity.
When asked whether she would consider a run for the presidency herself, Lara left the door open for her family’s future political aspirations, stating, “I can’t rule out the possibility that it could happen.” She acknowledged their steep learning curve in politics, emphasizing that they had started from scratch.
Reflecting on personal challenges, the family recounted the emotional labor of explaining the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, to their young children. Lara described it as “one of the most difficult things” she has faced, particularly as her kids, then aged four and six, struggled to understand the situation.
She recounted her daughter’s concern about her grandfather’s injuries, saying, “It was hard for them to rationalize why someone would want to do that.” This candid reflection highlighted the profound challenge of navigating such complex issues within a family setting.
