A single mother of two young children in Utah who was raising money for her funeral after being diagnosed with cancer has died, according to her family.
Erica Diarte Carr, 33, was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer, a rare cancer, in May 2022.

Doctors told her she had multiple tumors that had spread to other parts of her body, including her skeletal system.

After her diagnosis, Diarte-Carr started a GoFundMe account with a modest goal of $5,000. As of Oct. 14, the fund had ballooned to more than $1.17 million.

Doctors told Diarte-Carr in September that she had three months to live. Her cousin, Angelique Rivera, posted on Facebook on Saturday that Diarte Carr had passed away.

Rivera wrote, “I am saddened that this will be my last update to my cousin Erica. She has joined her mother Sylvia, brother JJ, and uncles Chava and Louis.” . “She fought a long, hard battle. She was strong and endured as much as she could for her baby. I know she was so grateful for everyone's support, love and prayers. ”
