IDF Exposes Hezbollah Tunnel, Bunker in Southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has released videos and photos of underground tunnels and bunkers discovered beneath a Shiite village in southern Lebanon and used by Hezbollah's elite Radwan unit.

The IDF said in a statement:

Soldiers from the 8th Brigade Combat Team, under the command of the 91st Division, continue to conduct limited, localized and targeted raids based on accurate intelligence in southern Lebanon. The soldiers, working with Yahalom forces, discovered an 800-metre-long underground facility that served as a command center for Hezbollah's Radwan forces. Inside the underground complex, the IDF discovered missiles fired by helicopters, mortar shells, motorcycles, living quarters, and means of long-term stay, including a kitchen with food and supplies. Hezbollah purposely embedded this underground command center beneath civilian areas in southern Lebanon, intending to mobilize these weapons as part of its “Conquest of Galilee” invasion plan.

During a targeted raid on the facility, the unit encountered terrorists who had infiltrated the headquarters. The terrorists were removed by Israeli Air Force aircraft. Troops continue to operate in the area and are investigating the route of the tunnel.

IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagari RAdm: “They were planning to use their motorbikes here to enter Kiryat Shmona, Ifta, villages and positions inside Israel and carry out massacres. They were here only a few days ago. I was there.”

Hezbollah's plans to “conquer the Galilee” were revealed earlier this month after Israel sent ground forces to Lebanon for the first time.

Hezbollah tunnels are distinguished from Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip by differences in design and function. Most of Hamas's tunnels have arched roofs, and appear to be a means of moving unnoticed beneath Gaza. Hezbollah's tunnels are rectangular and appear more solid, with numerous underground chambers for soldiers and supplies.
