Georgia is one of the most competitive states this cycle
Georgia has voted Republican in all but two elections over the past 40 years. The first time was in 1992, when former President Clinton won an overwhelming victory, and the second time was in 2020, when President Biden returned the state to Democrats by a margin of 11,779 votes.
If either candidate wins here, the path to victory will be easy. The Peach State has 16 electors up for grabs, with recent polls showing a close race and FOX News Power Rankings ranking it a “toss-up.”

Democrats are doing well in the Atlanta metropolitan area, where more than half of the state's population lives, and especially in the most densely populated counties of Fulton and DeKalb. There is a higher concentration of black and college voters there.
Surrounding suburban areas also help boost the Democratic vote, but the more suburban you go, the more competitive the county becomes. Cobb County (Biden +14) and Fayette County (Trump +7), located just north and south of Atlanta, are good examples.
Republicans won big with rural voters everywhere else. Republicans won all but 30 counties in the last election, with many of their biggest wins in the sparse Northwest and Southeast regions.
