A man has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly yelling “I'm going to kill the damn Jews!” during Yom Kippur in a majority-Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn. The New York Post reported.
Police said Muhammad Hashim's verbal abuse was directed at a 43-year-old man from Borough Park, the paper said. Yom Kippur, the holiest holiday in the Jewish calendar, began at sunset on Friday and ended at sunset on Saturday.
The paper said Hashim was released on his own recognizance because his primary charge of reckless endangerment is not eligible for bail.
Police told the newspaper that Hashim, 31, is also suspected of driving on the pavement during the incident.

“On the night of Yom Kippur, 31-year-old Muhammad Kassim allegedly shouted anti-Semitic slurs in a borough park and attempted to ram pedestrians with his car,” the Jewish neighborhood patrol group Shmirah Public Security said. I wrote For video captions.
Hashim, of Borough Park, was charged with reckless endangerment as a hate crime, second-degree reckless endangerment, aggravated harassment based on religion or race, and possession of a weapon, the newspaper reported, citing the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office. Ta.
The suspect was also charged with forgery for allegedly providing false information about himself to police during his arrest, the newspaper said.
Shumira Public Security told the Post that members of Shumira were the first to arrive at the scene and took photos and videos of the vehicle in which Hashim was riding. Hashim apparently left the scene, but returned a short time later, and Shumira members then followed him and contacted the New York City Police Department. The paper stated: The newspaper said officers arrested Hashim at around 12:20 a.m. Saturday at the corner of New Utrecht Street and 50th Street.
The paper said Hashim was released on his own recognizance because his primary charge of reckless endangerment is not eligible for bail. Lawyers listed for Mr. Hashim could not be reached for comment Monday, the newspaper reported.
