The boy, who identifies as transgender, was the subject of a previous incident at Ellsworth High School in Ellsworth, Maine, because of where he was allowed to use the girls' restroom, the newspaper cited a February report. reported. report by ellsworth american.
Earlier this year, about 20 students at Ellsworth High School reportedly protested that a male student was spying on a female student from a bathroom stall.
Regarding the recent incident at Mount Desert Island High School, the victim's mother told MainWire that the assailant started biting her daughter, “biting her eye,” and “was growling at her.”
“He grabs her by the hair and knocks her head off the sidewalk, all the while the teachers and principal crouch next to them,” she said. “The whole time, she's just screaming for help, crying and screaming, 'Somebody help me!' I screamed.”
The victim's mother added that her daughter told her, “I really thought I was going to die.” I thought that was it. I thought I'd never see you again. ”
“And that's probably the hardest thing to hear,” the mother said. “That's really a headache.”
Mount Desert Island High School Principal Matthew K. Haney, who appears in the video wearing a green jacket, did not respond to media inquiries from Main Wire about the attack and has since reportedly deleted his X account. are.
“If that bus driver wasn't there, he could have grabbed the bus.” [the male student’s] That's probably the only reason why my daughter is alive now,” the victim's mother told the magazine.
The victim's parents believe the bus driver is a former police officer, adding that the school is investigating the driver for splintering the attack.
Mike Zboley, superintendent of MDIRSS/AOS #91, which includes Mount Desert Island High School, told MainWire that the bus driver has not been placed on administrative leave, but would not comment on whether there is an investigation into his actions. He said he refused.
Zboley issued the following statement:
As you may know, a scuffle broke out in front of MDIHS on Friday morning. Due to privacy concerns and confidentiality, we are legally unable to share any further information about this incident or the individuals involved. However, we can assure you that school officials are taking this matter seriously and are responding in accordance with our school's policies and procedures.
Every student altercation is different, and administrative staff are trained to intervene using a variety of de-escalation strategies, from verbal cues to physical restraint (a last resort under Maine law). Every situation presents a learning opportunity for both students and staff, and we are constantly working to improve how we protect all students and staff. I trust our staff to follow their training and make decisions in the best interests of those involved in these difficult situations.
I would also like to share that there are some untrue rumors related to this event. Some said the bus driver was on vacation, but this is not true. Another accusation is that administrative staff bribed students with community service and sent mass emails to students asking them to delete videos. Those aren't true either.
Meanwhile, both the perpetrator and victim have reportedly been suspended from school.
The victim's parents say they plan to take legal action against the perpetrator, the school district, and Principal Haney. He also said his daughter suffered a concussion and vision loss as a result of the assault.
According to reports, the victim will need a CAT scan of his skull to confirm whether his vision problems are due to a fractured orbit.
“We send our kids to school hoping, of course, that something like this would never happen, but if it did happen to me, someone, anyone, would be a trained shitty teacher. I hope you go through all these things like “fucking training for what?” How can I avoid using it? '' said the victim's mother.
