CNN anchor Chris Wallace said Vice President Harris “scared” former President Trump during the presidential debate, so he doubts they will meet again before Election Day.
On Tuesday, Wallace appeared on “The View” and was asked by Sarah Haines what he thought about President Trump declining a “60 Minutes” interview, the first presidential candidate in more than 50 years to do so.
“I don't have a clear answer… but I have a hunch,” Wallace responded. Highlighted by Mediaite. “My gut feeling is that the debates are scaring Donald Trump in a way, and he realized that giving Kamala Harris a platform was a bad idea. So he's got 50, 60, 70 million people. It’s a person.”
“And if he were to appear on 60 Minutes with her, people would, number one, compare them, and number two, it would attract more viewers.” .
Harris and Trump attended a debate hosted by ABC News on September 10th. Although this was widely seen as a victory for Harris, the former president declared that he would not participate in the next election.
Wallace noted how close the race between Harris and Trump is, with the former president choosing to stick with what he knows works, such as hosting rallies with supporters. He claimed that there was.
“Despite all the reasons you guys have talked about today, he has a huge base of support for him,” Wallace told the hosts.
With just weeks left until the election, Harris and Trump are at an impasse.
Wallace said the vice president is off to a “great start” and will have a “shutout” and strong debate performance against Trump after the Democratic National Convention. Although she has raised record amounts of money, she is still fighting for her political future.
“It feels to me like she's hit a plateau. She's got to find a way to close the sale somehow,” Wallace said. “I think people still have questions about what she does and who she is, so we're ending the pitch.”
Nationally, Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by 2.9 percentage points, according to The Hill/Decision Desk headquarters, based on polling tallies.
