Harris Claim Trump Will Cut Social Security Is False

CNN's Daniel Dale said Wednesday on “The Newsroom” that Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris' claim that former President Donald Trump would cut Social Security in his second term is false.

Dale said: “She has argued at a number of events going back to July that Social Security should be cut under the next administration, as part of Project 2025, a conservative think tank's plan to develop proposals for the next Republican administration. “It was,” he said.

“Donald Trump has given massive tax cuts to billionaires and corporations, cut Social Security and Medicare, and refused to let corporations pay workers overtime,” Harris said at a North Carolina campaign rally. It will make it easier,” he said.

Dale said: “Project 2025 is online. It's a huge document that you can read. Nowhere in it does it call for cuts to Social Security. In fact, Social Security is barely mentioned. Currently, the federal budget says there must be a balance, but Harris' allies may say that cannot reasonably be done without cutting Social Security.

“However, I think this is a fairly indirect argument compared to what Vice President Harris said,” CNN Fact Check continued. “Similarly, Ms. Harris' allies say that Mr. Trump proposed cutting Social Security as president in his budget proposal. Sure, you can point to that. But , again, that's not what she's saying.”
