A new team in the National Women's Soccer League has apologized to the Boston sports community for airing a commercial claiming there are “too many balls.”
BOS Nation Football Club made a 1 minute post video Tom Brady and members of the Boston Bruins make cameo appearances on X Tuesday. The video focuses on Boston's championship culture, focusing on the city's “trophies, banners, rings, and balls.”
“At a time when trans women are being excluded from sports at every level, is 'too many balls' really a catchphrase we want to use here?”
“Old balls, new balls, steel balls, cold balls, even goat balls,” the narrator says.
The video then shifts focus to how Boston can utilize its new women's team.
“Boston loves balls, but maybe there are too many in this town,” the voiceover continues, before introducing the club.
“We are BOS Nation, where anything is possible. We don't need the ball,” he concluded.
Some might say the whole campaign was a joke and completely harmless given the context, but that didn't stop the team from collapsing under criticism from activists.
Notably, a WNBA writer said the ad felt like it excluded transgender people.
“My biggest concern with this campaign is how TERFy comes across.” Frankie de la Cretas I wrote. “At a time when trans women are being excluded from sports at every level, is 'too many balls' really the catchphrase we want to use here?”
The acronym “TERF” stands for “Trans-Exclusive Radical Feminist” and refers to feminists who do not believe that men can become women.
Dela Cletas also wrote that he felt “dangerous” because fans were wearing Make America Great Again hats at WNBA games.
Amid uproar, BOS Nation Football Club removed the campaign video Then I got upset apology To those who were offended.
“We wanted to create a bold and topical brand launch campaign, but we missed the mark,” the team said in a statement. “We fully acknowledge that the content of our campaign does not reflect the safe and welcoming environment we seek to create for everyone, and we are deeply grateful to the LGBTQ+ community, especially the trans community, for the hurt we have caused.” We apologize to the community.”
The team's statement also declared: “We are proud to be part of the world's most inclusive sports league and are committed to upholding the unifying values that define the NWSL and our clubs.” .
The team then thanked those who held them accountable and asked them to “do better.”
“We hear your voices, and we will do it together,” the statement concludes.
As is often the case with members of the woke activist mob, this apology was not well received and they soon began demanding that the team change its name.
