Mamdani Focuses on Affordable Soccer Tickets
Mayor Zoran Mamdani might not be prioritizing issues facing New York City residents, but he is showing a commitment to making soccer tickets more accessible.
In a promotional video, he stated, “We’re collaborating with the country’s two-time champions to ensure soccer is affordable for everyone, which is why we’ve released 1,000 tickets at just $5 for home games starting now on May 9.”
There seems to be a mixed reaction, as Blaze TV host Sarah Gonzalez commented, “The city of New York is deteriorating, and he’s focused on soccer, arguably the least appreciated sport. This is the outcome of electing someone like him. Just a long 90 minutes filled with disappointment.”
She reflected on past statements from Mamdani about making soccer more affordable, playing a clip where he mentioned, “A New Yorker asked me how he could score World Cup tickets, noting they can cost up to $600. It’s becoming increasingly unaffordable.”
Mamdani remarked, “What used to be a working-class sport has transformed into a luxury experience. Increasingly, people only watch it on TV, no matter where the World Cup takes place.”
“We want to provide more experiences for everyone,” he emphasized.
Gonzalez questioned the decision to focus on soccer, exclaiming, “Who really cares? Why soccer? It’s puzzling why he’s fixated on it.”
Even in a podcast, Mamdani noted the exorbitant prices of World Cup tickets, which can reach $6,000. He stated, “That’s ridiculous.”
Gonzalez responded, “Why not promote an American sport? Instead, he’s all in on soccer,” pointing out Mamdani’s boast about meeting FIFA’s president on social media. She continued, suggesting he should concentrate on issues that genuinely matter to New Yorkers. “At this rate, he’s driving the whole city to bankruptcy.”
