League officials believe the Dodgers are the favorites to acquire star free agent shortstop Willie Adames. Dodgers big men Andrew Friedman and Brandon Gomez groomed him in Tampa Bay.
Adames is a frequent trade target for the Dodgers, Braves, and Giants, and Atlanta could also use him now, but with a price tag of over $200 million, it might be expensive for them (they ($177 million) to the Cubs, who released long-time SS player Dansby Swanson.
Adames can also play third base, which could make him a good fit for the Blue Jays.
Mets baseball manager David Stearns acquired Adames to Milwaukee. If Pete Alonso leaves, could they use him at third base and move Mark Vientos to first base?
Tommy Edman is playing competently as a shortstop for the Dodgers, but one scout said he's “really a center fielder.” Edman is one of three impact deadline pickups from Los Angeles, which also acquired talented reliever Michael Kopech and NLCS Game 1 starter Jack Flaherty.

This is Dave Roberts' masterpiece. They have a bona fide All-Star rotation (Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, Gavin Stone, Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, Emmett Sheehan, River Ryan) and a pitcher who isn't quite at his level (Bobby). Miller) is there. But Roberts and his team are trying to hold things together by using three starters who are also dealing with pain: Flaherty (back), Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) and Walker Buehler (Tommy John).
Roberts averaged an all-time record of 102 wins, went 6-2 in winner-take-all games, and won a World Series (yes, counting 2020). The fact that his name is not mentioned as a hot candidate deserves a long extension.
