‘Ton of’ Steelers don’t agree with possible Justin Fields benching: NFL insider

The Steelers' quarterback situation is reportedly divided within the organization.

After Justin Fields led Pittsburgh to a 4-2 start and Russell Wilson left with a calf injury before the start of the regular season, many in the team expect manager Mike Tomlin to stay with Fields. I hope so. According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Brier:.

Wilson could be used at center instead of Fields in Week 7 against the Jets.

“This hasn't been decided yet,” Bouyer said Wednesday on “The Rich Eisen Show.” “I know there are people who feel that Tomlin is going to bring this up over the weekend and seriously consider it.”

“Every indication I've gotten is that the people in that building love Justin Fields. The coaches, the players. There's a lot of people in that facility right now who don't want Mike Tomlin to leave Justin Fields. There's a lot of people who feel like Fields represents who they are as a football team and helps them in the running game. No, he's not a perfect passer, but. He's doing enough and he's going to continue to get better and he's getting better week by week… There's a lot of people in that spot right now who feel Russell Wilson is going to limit their offense. Justin Fields doesn't, and I think that's a big reason why a lot of people want Tomlin to stay with Fields.”

Fields has thrown five touchdowns and added five rushing touchdowns, the most of any quarterback, but has only recorded one interception in six games.

The Steelers' passing attack has its limitations, which are offset by his rushing skills.

The 25-year-old has shown tremendous improvement in his six starts, but it appears the Steelers will rely on Super Bowl-winning quarterback Wilson, at least for the time being.

“To tell you the truth, I don't think I played well enough.” Mr. Fields said:. “If I'm honest with myself, I don't think there's a question of who should play and who shouldn't play, as long as I'm playing well enough.”

Wilson, who has taken all first-team reps in practice this week, said he is ready to start against the Jets (2-4) on “Sunday Night Football.”

Davante Adams will make his debut with the Jets on Tuesday following a blockbuster trade from the Raiders.
