Shohei Ohtani had costly ‘brain cramp’ in NLCS Game 5

The Dodgers had a chance to play in Game 5 of the NL CS right out of the starting gate on Friday.

And with Shohei Ohtani in third place with no one around, it seemed like a no-brainer.

But then the superstar didn't run when he should have – and the Dodgers were kept out.

And manager Dave Roberts was brutally honest about how he felt about Ohtani's decision.

Dave Roberts talked about Shohei Ohtani's mistakes on the bases.

In a matchup with Mets starting pitcher David Peterson, with no outs on second and third base in the first inning and the bases loaded, Teoscar Hernandez grounded out to shortstop Francisco Lindor. If they had, they would have conceded one point.

However, Otani was stuck at third base and was unable to score.

After getting two batters out, the Mets escaped and held off the Dodgers.

In the top of the third inning, the Foxes' Ken Rosenthal interviewed Roberts inside the visitors' dugout, and Roberts seemed surprised that Ohtani didn't trot home on his first RBI of the game.

“Oh, I don't know, it was just the corner there and the ball went right into the middle of the field. I think he just had a brain spasm and got stuck there,” Roberts said. “They gained some momentum so hopefully they can get through it.”

The Mets countered with Alonso's three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning, but the Dodgers added one run in the second inning to make it 3-1.

The Mets then scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to break the game.
