Saquon Barkley lights it up against former Giants teammates as Daniel Jones gets benched

MetLife Stadium may no longer be the home of Saquon Barkley, but it certainly didn't look that way during the Philadelphia Eagles' blowout win on the road against the New York Giants.

Barkley entered this week not believing that the Giants fans who once cheered for him would boo him. But Eagles fans jumped for joy after Barkley silenced Giants fans and played his best game yet in his new uniform, scoring 176 rushing yards and a touchdown in a 28-3 rout. Welcome was not an issue.

Barkley needed just 17 rushing attempts to attack his old teammates and ended up with a ton of rushing yards, including a game-high 55 yards for a 3-yard score in the second quarter.

The Eagles gained 270 yards as a team, with Kenneth Gainwell gaining 56 yards on 13 touches and quarterback Jalen Hurts also gaining 22 yards.

Hurts didn't need many passes in this game, completing just 10 of 14 for 114 yards. But he found AJ Brown along the left sideline for a perfect 41-yard touchdown strike to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead. This play was made with 4 outs and 3rd base, but the Giants, who had been putting pressure on Hurts from the beginning, were unable to bring him down this time.

Speaking of the Giants, the scoreboard said it all for the offense as they couldn't do anything against the Eagles' defense, which was hindering Daniel Jones throughout the game.

Jones was ultimately benched in the second half in favor of Drew Lock, but it's unclear at this time whether it was due to an outburst from head coach Brian Daboll or a poor performance.

Jones threw for 99 yards on 14-of-21 completion, but his offensive line never held up and was sacked eight times. The Eagles took advantage of Josh Ezeudu taking over at left tackle for Andrew Thomas, who will miss the rest of the season after undergoing foot surgery.

As a team, the Giants had just 119 yards of offense on the day, while the Eagles had 339 yards.

Giants owner John Mara said he would have a hard time sleeping if Barkley, a player the team acquired from Penn State with the No. 2 overall pick in 2018, goes to the Eagles.
