California Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi was a “central figure” in the movement to remove President Biden from the presidential candidacy, according to a forthcoming book.
New York Times opinion writer Jonathan Alter's new book, “America's Reckoning: Inside the Trump Trial – and Myself'' (on sale Tuesday), includes a review of his disastrous June debate with former President Trump. A detailed feature on the efforts to oust Biden.
In the excerpt From Vanity Fair On Oct. 14, Alter's headline outlined how Pelosi “ripped off the Democratic Party's Band-Aid” to persuade Biden to drop the race.
“The driving force behind making Biden change his mind was Pelosi, who leveraged their 40-year friendship. Initially, she thought she could weather what Biden described as a 'bad night.'” But Ms. Pelosi is an institutionalist and loves the House, and it appears her nightmare of not being able to regain control of the chamber (at a time when Democrats were on the verge of taking it back) has come true. wrote Alter.

Pelosi supports Biden's resignation, says she was only concerned about the campaign, not the 'great' president
He added: “With Republicans in control of the Presidency, the House and Senate, and the Supreme Court, who will check President Trump's authoritarian impulses? After Biden underperformed with Stephanopoulos, Pelosi “He was counted on by Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and the Democratic leadership on Capitol Hill.” Mr Hill will intervene. ”
“But the guys were MIA,” an insider reportedly told Alter. “She was not happy that the only bloody fingerprints on the knife were hers.”
The excerpt shows how within weeks of Biden's debate, Pelosi initiated several conversations and phone calls to gently remove Biden from the race. After Biden did not change his decision to remain in the race, Pelosi began making more public efforts, saying in an interview that it was up to the president to decide whether or not to run.
“If it's a fly on the wall, it's the subtle, subtle ploy that the velvet-gloved boss of this era, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, so sensitively engineered to remove the President of the United States from power. You'd see a master of politics, cut off his head and you'd never know,' one of her friends told me,'' Alter wrote.
