Harris, Cheney make blue wall swing to appeal to GOP voters

Vice President Harris and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) spent Monday swinging around the blue wall to appeal to Republican voters.

The vice president and former congressman traveled to Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin to participate in three campaign events, during which he fielded questions from attendees and appeared surrounded by “Party Over Country” signs. Ta.

They spoke with voters Monday night in Brookfield, Wisconsin, asking questions on topics ranging from Social Security to reproductive health care.

Conservative columnist Charlie Sykes, who moderated the debate, asked Cheney on Sunday about Sen. Lindsey Graham, R.S. He questioned why Republicans supported Harris.

“Number one, don't listen to Lindsey Graham. That's actually good life advice,” Cheney said.

Cheney and Harris also berated former President Trump throughout the event, noting that some former Trump officials had warned him against it. They highlighted that former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and retired general Mark Milley reportedly called former President Trump a “total fascist.”

“When you think about how you live your life outside of politics…those are the people you trust and the people you want to work with,” Cheney said. “If you don't hire someone to babysit your children, you shouldn't make that person president of the United States.”

Harris warned that Trump is “easily manipulated by flattery,” referring to his relationships with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“If Donald Trump were president, Vladimir Putin would be sitting in Kiev,” Harris said.

Monday's election event is part of an ongoing effort to attract Republicans, independents and undecided voters. Last week, Ms. Harris pledged her campaign to Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania, and earlier this month she held a rally with Ms. Cheney in Ripon, Wisconsin, a well-known Republican stronghold.

The second campaign stop of the day on Monday was Oakland County, Michigan, hosted by Maria Shriver. Attendees asked Harris and Cheney questions ranging from curbing gun violence to what the United States can do to stop Russia from continuing its war in Ukraine.

Mr. Shriver asked Mr. Cheney why he was not afraid of a backlash for supporting Ms. Harris, to which the former congressman replied, “The reaction that we all have is, we don't have to be afraid of not taking action.''

Cheney added, “That's the way it should be. We should vote him out.”

“And don't think of it as a morbid sense of humor, don't think of it as just a sense of humor…The consequences if he comes back into the White House are brutal. It's very serious,'' he said.

The first campaign event on Monday morning was held in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and was moderated by Bulwark publisher Sarah Longwell. Attendees asked a wide range of questions, from supporting the so-called sandwich generation to strengthening maternal health care.

Harris, who has been trying to distance herself from President Biden in the final stages of the campaign, was asked what she meant by “turning the page,” one of her campaign's key slogans.

“My administration is not a continuation of the Biden administration,” he said, adding, “I'm bringing my own ideas and experiences to the table.”

Cheney touted her at the event as “willing to defend our Constitution.”

“We may not always agree, but I know that Vice President Harris will always do what she believes is right for this country. She has a heart of integrity, and that's why I'm here today. I'm honored to come and support her in this race,” the Republican said.

Harris continued her Blue Wall bombing last week, emphasizing her campaign's focus on three battleground states.

All three states are in close presidential races. Trump leads Harris by 0.2 percentage points in Pennsylvania and by 0.6 percentage points in Michigan, according to a poll compiled by Decision Desk Headquarters/The Hill. Both candidates are tied in Wisconsin.
