How many voters have cast ballots in 2024 election?

Early in-person and mail-in ballots have begun pouring in across the country, and state counts show growing voter enthusiasm.

Recent polls suggest the race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is close, with results in seven battleground states: Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada. Some states also provide a breakdown of early voting, including party affiliation, race, and age. Comparing these results to other elections may give the impression that one candidate or party is performing better than the other.

And while early voting data shows some voters' party registration, it doesn't reveal how they voted. States do not announce their actual vote counts until election night. Voting data currently released by some states shows the party affiliation of voters who requested or returned their ballots. But it's not the same as an actual vote. For example, a voter may have been registered as a Democrat decades ago but chose to vote for Trump this year. And many voters are not registered with either party, making voting even more mysterious.
