Ohio woman, 77, accused of fatally shooting man who ‘jokingly’ asked her to shoot him

An Ohio woman has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a man who asked her to shoot him “jokingly” during a “harmless joke,” police said.

Kathleen Geiger, 77, was charged with reckless homicide for allegedly killing Arthur Osborn, 58, at his Cincinnati apartment on Sunday.

According to Cincinnati Police, officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 2700 block of East Tower Drive on Sunday night around 7:47 p.m. Osborne was pronounced dead at the scene.

Guyger shot Osborn once in the pelvis, “recklessly causing his death,” according to the affidavit. fox 19 Reported.

The woman told police that she and Osborn were “exchanging harmless banter when Osborn jokingly requested that she be shot,” police wrote in the affidavit.

Guyger said he thought his gun was unloaded, so he pointed it at Osborne and pulled the trigger.

She shot Osborne in the groin, according to court documents. Quoted by WLWT.

Prosecutors said at her arraignment that her belief that the gun was unloaded was “not an excuse,” according to the newspaper.

“Anyone who owns a firearm has a responsibility to act responsibly,” one prosecutor said. “You never point a firearm at something and pull the trigger unless you intend to destroy it. The defendant pointed a firearm at someone and pulled the trigger, resulting in death.”

Police said she eventually provided medical assistance to Osborne and called 911.

Guyger's bail was set at $10,000, and her case will be sent to a grand jury for possible indictment. The next court date was set for October 31st.
