Bronny James’ Lakers future is murky after controversial cameo

Bronny James' sweet moments with LeBron may be his last meaningful moments for a while.

The orchestrated decision for the father-son duo to take the court together in a regular season game, resulting in three minutes of action together in the game, bothered some media outlets who labeled it “It's a complete sideshow and disrespectful to the game.”

Bronny started in the first half but missed two shot attempts as the Lakers trailed by five points.

The 20-year-old did not play again in the Lakers' 110-103 win over the Timberwolves.

The second-round pick is unlikely to be part of the Lakers' regular rotation going forward as the veteran team competes for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The younger James is considered a long-term investment after suffering a cardiac arrest during preseason practice and having a mediocre season at the University of Southern California.

“My days are not normal anymore. I feel like I'm still coming back, getting back to where I was.” Bronny told Men's Health before the season.

The question will be what the Lakers think is best for Bronny's future, and LeBron will likely have a significant say in the matter.

Bronny, who had his ups and downs during Summer League and the preseason, could play sparingly in garbage time with the Lakers or receive significant playing time in the G League, which opens next month.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst, who has covered LeBron since high school, gave some insight into the Lakers' mindset Wednesday morning.

“As a father, you're going to feel a certain way about having your son with you,” Windhorst said on “Get Up.”

“What the Lakers are doing here is trying to get the best out of LeBron. This is not only an investment in history, but also an investment to attract and energize a 39-year-old franchise player. And I think it's working. I think LeBron is fully involved and full of energy and I think JJ Redick is totally leaning into this and fully embracing this. , I'm setting this up and making it happen.

“It's not going to define this season, and I don't even know if it's going to define the Lakers this week. But it's going to be very important for his franchise player.”

The Lakers host the Suns on Friday, looking to start the season 2-0.
