A new book by noted journalist Bob Woodward finds that Democratic donors are changing their minds as of June 2023, a year after June's disastrous debate performance. He was concerned about his sensitivity.
Woodward, one of the Washington Post reporters who brought Watergate to light in the 1970s, said at a June 2023 fundraising event that Biden's apparent mental decline was worrying wealthy donors. He explains that he started writing about a year ago, when Biden was having trouble writing coherent sentences during the Watergate scandal. Woodward made this argument in his new book, “War,'' during a nationally televised debate against former President Donald Trump. According to To Axios' Alex Thompson. Due to her performance in this debate, Vice President Kamala Harris ultimately replaced Biden in the top position. avoided Questions about her awareness of Biden's apparent cognitive decline.
“The first fundraiser, hosted by Microsoft Chief Technology Officer Kevin Scott at his home in Los Gatos on June 19, was attended by 38 guests, including some of the Valley's most avid Democratic donors. According to excerpts shared by Thompson on social media, the event raised $2.7 million for Biden's reelection fund,'' Woodward wrote in his book. “But the guests said Biden was “horribly awful.'' It sounded like “an 87-year-old old man'' walking around the room and telling female guests, “Your eyes are so beautiful.'' It was something.” (Related: Biden official says the quiet part out loud: 'No one is listening to him')

Woodward claims that at another fundraiser in June at the Four Seasons in New York City, donors were similarly “surprised and shaken” by Biden's apparent lack of mental fortitude. At the event, Biden couldn't remember the word “veteran” and asked attendees to find a word to refer to someone who had served in the military, Woodward reported in his book.
Biden's mental decline was on full display at another fundraiser in Chevy Chase, Maryland, in June 2023, Woodward writes in his book. Guests described the president's performance at the event as “pathetic,” Woodward said.
“He didn't finish a single sentence,” Bill Reichblum, co-founder and president of the Liberty's Journal Foundation, who attended the event, told Woodward. “He would start talking about something or jump somewhere. He would repeat the same story three times in the exact same way and it was very meandering…It was impressive and did.”
“Frankly, my impression is that there were times when it was as if we didn't exist,” Reichblum continued. “He was just rambling whatever was on his mind,” he said, adding that Biden looked like an elderly relative who could talk but “didn't understand.” .
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
