Long time state attorney general elected governor in this red bastion

The Fox News Decision Desk predicts that Republican West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrissey will succeed Republican Gov. Jim Justice as governor of the red-leaning state.

Morrissey is expected to defeat Democratic candidate Steve Williams for mayor of Huntington, the state's second-most populous city.

West Virginia was once a Democratic-dominated state, but the state has moved significantly to the right in recent elections.

Former President Trump carried the state by 39 points four years ago and carried it by 42 points in the 2016 election.

Morrissey, 56, has served as West Virginia's attorney general since 2012.

Mr. Justice is term-limited as governor and ran this cycle for the state's open Senate seat.
