On Election Day, around 8:00 pm (Eastern Time), voter turnout reached 88%. NBC News And the Associated Press declared former President Donald Trump the projected winner in the key Florida state.
As of press time, Trump had won 55.8% of the vote, while Vice President Kamala Harris had 43.4%.
With this victory, Trump received 30 electoral votes. To secure the presidency, a candidate needs to win 270 electoral votes, a majority of 538 total electors.
In 2020, Trump won the battleground state with 51.2% of the vote.
This time, President Trump put Duval and Pinellas counties on the red flag. Trump previously lost both counties to President Joe Biden. Duval County is considered a leader in Georgia.
In Miami-Dade County, Trump lost to Biden by 7 points, then swept the field with Harris by 11 points.
Governor Ron DeSantis wrote: דFlorida voting has ended. @realDonaldTrump carries Florida and wins 30 electors.”
Hillsborough County, a Democratic stronghold in previous presidential election cycles, also appeared to have swung toward Trump by the time the results were in.
Also in Florida, Republican incumbent Sen. Rick Scott defeated Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell by 11 points. In the House elections, Republicans secured 17 seats and Democrats gained 6 seats. As of around 8pm ET, there were still five seats available.
