On Tuesday, Mr. Adams (New York) voted to support the vice president.
“This is the same person I supported,” Adams said. “Vice President Kamala Harris.”
The New York mayor declined to answer further questions about his support, saying expressing his opinion constitutes “campaigning.”
On Monday, Adams was asked at a news conference at City Hall who he would support in the 2024 election.
“We have to be very careful,” Adams told reporters. “Everything I do is valued, so I have to be careful. If I’m campaigning from this podium, you’re going to be writing about it… So if you do, you're terrible, you're terrible if you don't. ”
“Who I supported is who I vote for,” he said, adding that he plans to watch the results with his son Jordan.
When Harris first became a Democratic presidential candidate, Adams supported her. However, he has remained silent about her candidacy since then.
The mayor explained that since he was indicted on federal bribery and corruption charges in late September, he has received legal advice to be especially careful about what he says when performing his duties as mayor.
Adams also said he voted for Harris as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and said he was targeted by the federal government for criticizing the state's current illegal immigration crisis.
