Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was declared victorious in the key battleground state of Georgia just after midnight Wednesday morning.
As its nickname suggests, the Peach State has 16 electors that can determine the outcome of the presidential election. Voting ended at 7pm ET.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger previously accused Russia of trying to cause chaos in the state election.
Georgia, previously considered a deep red state, has become a battleground state. In 2020, President Joe Biden will
slim margin It received only about 11,800 votes, or about two-tenths of the total votes cast. It was the first time Georgia had gone Democratic since Bill Clinton won in 1992.
The controversy over the 2020 runoff elections for Georgia's Senate seats resulted in Democrats winning both contested races, shifting the Senate to Democratic control.
Storm clouds gathered over Georgia in October, when polls showed the Harris campaign was failing miserably in its efforts to persuade male voters to vote Democratic. Only three in 10 male respondents in the state said they would vote for Harris. Nearly six in 10 male voters said they would vote for Trump.
Georgia authorities reported threats intended to derail the election, including bomb threats against five polling places that led to voting suspensions.
“Despite the bomb threat, please rest assured that we are working quickly to ensure that every voter has the opportunity to vote,” said DeKalb Elections Director Keisha Smith. “Out of an abundance of caution, we are suspending voting at these polling locations until we receive permission from the DeKalb Police Department to reopen the facilities.”
The FBI said the bomb threat did not appear to be credible, and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger previously said Russia was trying to disrupt the state's election based on an investigation into a hoax video circulating online. He was accusing him of being there.
