‘Don’t Just Chalk It Up To Racism’: Charlamagne Says It’s Not ‘Fair’ To Claim Trump Won Solely Due To Bigotry

Radio host Charlamagne Tha God argued Wednesday that it's unfair to blame former President Donald Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris on bigotry.

Trump won the election early Wednesday, thanks in part to growing support from Hispanics and black men. “I know the Democrats are going to be holding someone accountable today. Let me be the first to say, it's not just one thing. Personally, I think Donald Trump is more responsible for the people than the Democrats. I feel like I'm doing a good job of appealing to complaints. I know people will talk about misinformation and social decline. I understand all that, but be smart about not being able to pay your bills. It doesn’t have to be,” Charlamagne said. “You don't have to be smart to know you can't afford groceries. People will forget what you did, people will forget what you said, but they will never remember how you made them feel. I won't forget. And for millions, tens of millions of Americans, they felt better economically when Trump took office.”

“I don't think it's fair to write off President Trump's victory solely because of racism, sexism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism. Certainly, he's a great example of what America has ever had to offer.” He has taken all the worst of it and there are many people who agree with his rhetoric and voted for him for those reasons,” he added. “But I truly believe that most people voted for him because they wanted more money in their pockets and they wanted peace of mind.”

Charlamagne argued that Democratic presidents are better economic managers, but he said Democrats have been unable to convince Americans of that. He also insisted that “the border issue is a bipartisan issue,” but criticized Democrats for initially ignoring the border, saying the sanctuary city policy backfired.

“At the end of the day, once again, when you see all that money going to immigration and border issues, they have billions of dollars to do that, and they're not investing it in their communities. All I can think is, here in America,” Charlamagne said. “You see homeless people everywhere. You don't have money in your pocket. You don't know how to pay your bills. You're facing eviction.”

“Listen, I'm not saying Trump is going to solve everything. What I'm saying is that Donald Trump is going to solve everything in a way that the Democrats didn't.” “Once again, don't chalk it up to just racism or sexism,” he added. “Yeah, I think those things play a part, but at the end of the day, it's the economy, idiot. And maybe the Democrats don't really understand what everyday Americans are feeling.”

Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews on Wednesday criticized the Democratic Party's “open borders” policy after Harris' loss to Trump, saying the way the Biden administration tolerates illegal immigration “is a big problem for Hispanics. He didn't seem to like it.''
