Before getting into the new text formatting and animation effects, it's important to make sure your iPhone is updated to iOS 18. Here's how to check and update your device:
- Tap setting App on home screen.
- Scroll down and tap General.
- tap Software updates. The device will check for available updates.
- If iOS 18 is available, tap . Download and install. You may be asked to enter your passcode.
- I agree to the terms Then wait until the update is downloaded and installed. Once the installation is complete, your iPhone will restart.

How to format text messages
Here's how to format text in the Messages app.
- open conversation In the Messages app.
- Tap message bar.
- A pop-up will appear text effect. Tap on it.
- Please choose from bold, italic, underline or strikethrough option.
- Please enter your name here text message and Apply formatting I want to use it. You can apply these before entering or to a text message you wrote already written.

How to add animated text effects to messages
Want to add some extra flair to your text messages? Try these animated text effects: Big, Small, Shake, Nod, Explosion, Ripple, Bloom, and Jitter. Here's how to use them:
- open conversation In the Messages app.
- Tap message bar.
- A pop-up will appear text effect. Tap on it.
- Tap animated text effects I want to use it.
- Please enter your name text message, Like Happy Birthday.

How to combine formatting and animated text effects
Now comes the really fun part. You can combine various formatting options and text effects within a single message. Want to make one word bold, another underlined, and the third word explode? Good luck. Note that you cannot apply both formatting and effects to the same text. It's either.
