Ritchie Torres blasts far-left Democrats for Trump win

New York Democrats recently blamed progressives for President-elect Trump's victory this week, arguing that far-left causes are actually disillusioning some voters.

Rep. Richie Torres (D.N.Y.) claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday that his party has “alienated a historic number” of minority voters. Torres, a vocal supporter of Israel, pointed to pro-Palestinian protests as one of the causes, as well as the pro-police movement.

“Donald Trump has no greater friend than the far left, which has targeted historic numbers of Latinos, blacks, and “Latinos,” Torres wrote, succeeded in drawing Jews away from the Democratic Party.

“We have more to lose politically than to gain by pandering to the far left, which is more representative of Twitter, Twitch, and TikTok than the real world,” the Democrats added. “The working class is not buying the ivory tower nonsense being sold by the far left.”

Torres' comments came in the wake of initial 2024 election results that found Vice President Harris to be less favorable among Latino and Hispanic voters than President Biden in 2020. be.

Biden won 63% support among Latinos in 2020, compared to 54% for Harris this year, according to Fox News voter analysis.

Trump's support among Latino and Hispanic voters jumped from 35% in 2020 to 41% in 2024, according to a separate Fox News voter analysis.

Harris will not speak from Howard University on election night as planned.

The change comes days after the Trump campaign was criticized for hosting comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a high-profile October 27 rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The comedian sparked an outcry after making an incendiary joke about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of garbage.”

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-CortezD.N.Y. attempted to use Hinchliffe's joke as an opportunity to shake up the Latino community shortly after Hinchliffe made his remarks.
